Kayaking: People have this as a hobby?!?!

This is a sport for the insane. What kind of person ENJOYS going down class 5+ rapids on the weekend? My friend Steve and his buddy Dave do this all the time - Dave has been ~50 times already this year.

I'm personally convinced that hiking into the wilderness and putting yourself in an inflatable boat in the middle of a raging river is a sign that you've got either a death wish, a mental deficiency, or a personality and thought process so foreign to me that I am incapable of processing...
